SALEM
CHURCH
HISTORY
The Salem Seventh Day Baptist Church, established in 1792, has for over 200 years been an integral part of the Salem, West Virginia community. Its earliest members founded the town and the college (Salem College, now Salem University https://www.salemu.edu/).

Like other Baptists, Seventh Day Baptists trace their roots to 17th century England and since that time have worshipped on Sabbath (Saturday). The first American church was established in Newport, Rhode Island in 1671.
Now there are churches across the country and in many nations on six continents. Our Church is a part of the Seventh Day Baptist General Conference, USA and Canada (https://www.seventhdaybaptist.org/). Many Independent Conferences form the Seventh Day Baptist World Federation (https://www.sdbwf.org/ ).
